Introduction to Bri - the Dancing Mathematician

Hi! I'm Brianna! There's a lot to know about me, but here's just a couple of the most important/fun things:

I'm a dancer!
I started dancing when I was six years old and I never stopped.  By high school, it was practically my full-time job because I was on my high school pom team and I was taking up to 3 hours of dance classes almost every night.  Not to mention all of the competitions, conventions, and recitals.  Now, I have a new job - OU Pom!  So, as you can see, my love for dance is still going strong, and I hope to continue dancing however I can after college.

I'm a math major!
There's not a whole lot of reasoning behind this career path choice, other than I'm just really good at math.  This is also something a lot of people are very surprised to hear when I tell them.  It's cool because I've never met anyone outside of my math classes who is also a math major.

I LOVE dogs!!
And here is a picture of my Sophie baby:

BIG family person!
I have a very big and very close-knit family, and there's nothing I love more than spending time with them.  I have two sisters and dozens of cousins, and while some of us live in the same place, so I get to see them all the time, some of them live far away and I don't get to see them as often.  This makes me a little sad but the wait is so worth it whenever they do visit because we have the best time when we're all finally back together.  Something that has become somewhat of a tradition is that, over the holidays, we'll all spend the night (or several nights) together, go see (or rent) a movie, and play lots and lots of games.  We also all share a love/obsession for Avengers movies, so it's only fitting that whenever a new movie comes out, we try to go to see it all together.

  1. Hey Brianna! It's so cool that you're on the OU Pom Squad.I don't dance personally, but my high school had a fantastic varsity pom squad always brought in the crowds.

Your dog, Sophie, is just the cutest! I have three dogs at home, and I'm sure you can agree that every dog no matter how old is still a puppy.

It's cool that you have a close relationship with your cousins. Family is the greatest treasure a person can have.

  2. Hello Brianna! Your photo in front of the Palace on the Prairie is STUNNING! To be able to move like that is truly a talent and a blessing. It is so cute how much you care about your family and your dog. I, myself, am also a BIG dog person, they are possibly my favorite animal. Also props to you for being a math major, math is definitely my worst subject so it always amazes me to see someone who excels in it!

  3. Hi Brianna! I loved reading your introduction, and your puppy is so cute! It is awesome that you are on OU pom and I wish you luck on you future endeavors with dance. Also, I just watched all the Avengers (like start to finish in the past month) so now I am obsessed. I think it is so cool that you share that with your family and make time to see the movie with them. Boomer!

  4. Hi Brianna, it's great to meet you! I am also a dog lover, and Sophie is so adorable! It's so cool that you get to be so close with your family - especially your extended family. I don't have anywhere near that many cousins, and the ones I do have I only get to see on rare occasions (even less frequently since I've moved to Oklahoma for school), so I always find it so sweet when I meet someone who is so close to their family like that! I am very tight-knit with my immediate family, though, despite the distance. :)

  5. Wow, that pom photo shoot picture is amazing, Brianna! And I think that combination of math and movement is brilliant. There are some other math majors in these classes... I think the last math introduction I read was Alby's introduction; maybe you know each other from math classes already!
And your Sophie is such a cutie: maybe she can be the heroine of a story you write for class sometime. Or you and your sisters could get together and save the world, being your own superheroes (superheroines!): anything can happen in the realm of the imagination so my advice is always just to let your imagination RUN FREE and see what happens. :-)

Hi Brianna! Congratulations on being on the OU pom squad. That is such an honor and huge accomplishment. You seem very committed to dance and it looks like it has paid off. I cannot image going to three hours of dance AFTER classes every day in high school. The picture on campus is awesome! I hope that you can continue your dance career after graduation, have you ever thought about moving somewhere for a dance program after? My family and I also really love the avenger’s series and we all live about 3 hours from each other so that is something we like to plan to get together for. I also think it is really awesome that you are a math major, there are not a ton of those around, but I know that I always struggled at math ha-ha! Have a great semester and enjoy dancing at the games!

  7. Hi Brianna! I think it's great that you have such a tight-knit family and admire all of the traditions that you all share together. My family is very similar. During the holidays, we all get together and play every board game that exists out there, so I can relate to that! Also, the picture of your dog is so cute! She looks so sweet! Thanks for sharing!

  8. Hi Brianna!
I think it is so cool that you are a math major, and I must say I am very surprised! I rarely hear someone say that is what they want to study, but, if you're good at it then why not major in it? Also, I share your obsession with dogs. We have 4 dogs in my family and my most favorite is our Corgi named Logan, he is my pride and joy!

  9. Hi Brianna! That's so cool that you're a dancer and that you're on OU pom! I did pom all four years of high school and I loved it! It took up all of my time but it has been one of my favorite experiences ever because of all of the life lessons and friendships it has given me so far! I hope you continue to follow your passion for dance, because it seems to be something that fuels you and fires you up!

  10. Hi Brianna!
A passionate dancer majoring in math seems very unique to me. You appear to be truly one of a kind! I am an electrical engineering major so I also have a solid math background. I love the avengers movies too and also hold nothing higher than spending time with my family. Your dog is adorable, she is lucky to be apart of such a healthy family.
    Good luck this semester!

  11. Hey Brianna! I've got to say, you might be the only person on this campus who is both on OU Pom and a math major. I'm curious as to what you're looking to do with that degree; there's definitely a lot of paths you can follow. I can definitely relate to your love of Avengers movies. I literally have a list in my notes where I ranked every single Marvel movie. For what it's worth, Endgame and Infinity War are #1 and #2 on my list.

  12. Hi Brianna! That is so cool that you are on OU Pom. I can imagine doing that and being a math major is really tough, but both sound interesting! I too am a big Avengers person and enjoy going to the theatres to watch them whenever they come out. I recently watched the new Spiderman which only increased my liking of the Marvel movies.

  13. Hey Brianna,

Fellow math major here! Awesome to see another here, and it’s so cool that you bring together these two crazy different worlds!

You should definitely come by a Math Club meeting one of these days, meet a couple of your fellow majors (myself included, I guess) in person outside of class. (Plus, there’s really good pizza.)

    See you around PHSC,
    Best,
    Alby

  14. Hi Brianna!
Wow, we actually have so much in common! For one, I am also a dancer! I am so jealous that you were able to continue your dancing career in college. That is one thing that I wish I would've done! I also love how you're a dog person, because I love dogs! They are the best. One thing that I applaud you on, is your major. Math is an incredibly hard major, so congrats on all your success! You seem to be really busy, but it is awesome that you are doing things that you are passionate about!

  15. Hey Brianna!

That's awesome that you're on Pom, I was a competitive dancer growing up until high school and I miss it sometimes but I really wanted a social life so I decided to quit (those all night practices are seriously not a joke). I'm still surrounded by it though because my sister currently dances at University of Southern California and I love getting to watch her! Well, I wish you the best of luck this semester and with your dancing career!

  16. Hi Brianna,

Thanks for sharing a little bit about yourself with everyone! That's awesome you're on the OU Pom team! I know that it took a lot of hard work and you should be super proud of that accomplishment! I also love the picture of Sophie, she's super cute! I love dogs and I'm glad you posted a picture of sweet Sophie. I wish you all the best in your semester and life!

  17. Hello Brianna,
So what does someone that loves dancing do with a math degree? I think it is a good fit if you are good at math. Maybe you could teach dance on the side to continue doing what you love! I also am a dog fan! I like to visit them though and not take them home. They seem to like to make big messes. I think having a big family is a huge blessing. Also being close knit with that family is wonderful. Always having others around you.

  18. Hi Brianna! I literally gasped when I saw your photo outside the stadium. I cannot imagine being able to position my body like that!! I'm always in such awe of dancers, and I love watching OU Pom on the sidelines during the games :) I have a big family, too, and I also love to spend time with them! Most of them live on the other side of the country, so I really related to what you said about how much more special it is to see them after being apart for so long. Best wishes to you!

  19. Hey Brianna!

It's great to see another member of spirit in this class, kicking butt. I think it's so cool your on Pom. Pom kills their performance every game, and it's one of my favorite things to watch because you guys do such a good job. I love that you're close to your family, because I am the same way. While my family might not be as big as yours, they mean a lot to me and the time I get to spend with them is precious! Good luck on the rest of the semester.

  20. Hey Brianna!

Wow, what a killer photo! OU Pom never fails to impress me. I don't get the opportunity to go to games much, but when I do, y'all are always a highlight. I don't have a large family, but my dad and I have the tradition of going to see each new Marvel movie in theaters together, so I can relate to you there! Best of luck during finals and through next semester!

  21. Hi Brianna,
It is lovely to meet you! I loved to dance when I was little. Your photos are great and your dog is so cute! Super cute photo of your family too. I have never actually met a math major either. I have been here for almost 4 years and didn't even meet a math major in my math classes (probably because my classes were low level). My family loves the marvel movies also, in fact we watched the Avengers and Spiderman this Thanksgiving.

  22. Hi Brianna!

Firstly, that is an awesome photo of you! I think it's so cool that you're on OU Pom and also a math major. I love dancing but I've never done anything professional or even competitions like you so go you! Also, I've never met a math major either. You happen to be the first person that I know of now that is a math major. Anyway, good luck on finals!

  23. Hey Brianna,
My sister has always been a dancer/Pom girl, so I know exactly how much hard work you’re having to constantly put in. With that, it shows just how much y’all love what you do, especially here at OU, where the Pom is a lot more rigorous to be a part of. I hope this season went well for you and I hope your winter break is full of rest!
    Andrew

  24. Hey Brianna!

I've never met a math major before. Especially not one who is a dancer so congrats on being the first. That's awesome. It's awesome that you're on pom. You guys rock! I can relate to being really close with family. I don't know what I would do without them, or if they didn't live so close. The photo of you outside the stadium is amazing.
